A congenital birth defect characterized by the absence of a normal anal opening. It may be associated with other congenital abnormalities.

As such clinical assessment is that if baby passes meconium it is thought to be not a case of imperforated anus. But sometimes female baby if passes meconium have to asses whether that baby has rectovaginal fistula.
